- Okay but what actually happens after a drop year? (class 11, asking early because I overthink)
Practical side: the money question matters more than people say. A drop year isn't just the fee, I wrote a post about the monthly cost. If you're in class 11 now, you've got time to quietly look at what a year would cost your family and make peace with that number. If it makes you feel guilty already, it's a sign to talk to your parents early.

- Dropper on a budget: can I learn Python for free without wrecking my NEET prep?
saving this thread. day 1 of Python 3 starts tonight, 30 min, after the bio revision block.

- How do I tell if a WhatsApp forward is fake? My family forwards health "remedies" and I panic every time
If it has a hospital or government logo on it, that's usually real, no?

- Dropper on a budget: can I learn Python for free without wrecking my NEET prep?
fair. honestly it's about 70% curiosity, 30% fear. I'll keep an eye on the ratio. Thanks for saying it straight

ok will switch. the tutorial series is gone, thanks for saving me from that

- Third attempt and I still mix up amensalism, commensalism and competition signs. Cleanest way to fix the (+,-,0) table?
Is Ophrys (the orchid that imitates the female bee) mutualism or parasitism? It's in the mutualism section of my book but the bee gets nothing.

- The worst study hacks I ever tried, written as memes you have to imagine
Hack 8 hurts. I bought three reference books in the first month and my parents said nothing but their eyes did a lot of talking. Free alternative: NCERT, the previous papers and the library. I now use only what I can afford to finish.

- Green chemistry examples in NCERT: which process replaced which (dry cleaning, bleaching, ethanal)? Mixing up the chemicals
Quick pairing as I remember it: - Dry cleaning: old = tetrachloroethene, new = liquid CO2 with a detergent - Paper bleaching: old = chlorine, new = hydrogen peroxide - Ethanal: ethene oxidised in one step Wait, also liquefied CO2 replaces chlorine in the bleaching step, I think, because CO2 is "green"? Not sure.

- How often should I revise a chapter so I stop forgetting it in two weeks?
Tracking without a spreadsheet: I use a small index-card box. Each chapter is a card with a date on top. When I revise it, I move the card to the next date slot (dividers by date). Costs about ₹60 and it's very satisfying.

- Why do my travel photos on my phone always look flat and washed out?
harsh no 😭 digital zoom just crops the picture and makes it blurry. your phone's telephoto lens (if it has one) is better than digital zoom but in general don't zoom. the secret for making a big landscape feel big is the opposite, include something close in the foreground (rocks, a fence, a person, a curve of the path) and let the mountain sit behind. Your brain reads the size from the contrast between near and far.

- Cr and Cu exceptions plus which electrons leave first in Fe³⁺ — 4s fills first but also leaves first, kaise?
For Fe³⁺, three electrons are removed, and since 3d is the last filled you lose from 3d first, so Fe³⁺ = 3d³ 4s². Cr³⁺ would be similar. Just remove from the orbital filled last, like a stack of plates where the last one on top comes off first. That's my budget trick.

- Stamen types by family: Fabaceae, Cruciferae, Malvaceae, Compositae, Graminae, Solanaceae, Liliaceae, how do I keep them apart?
Cruciferae (Brassicaceae): 4 sepals, 4 petals in a **cross** (that's why "Cruciferae"), 6 stamens all of equal length so it's "hexamerous" (I think), ovary superior with 2 carpels, and the fruit is a **siliqua** (long pod) or silicula (short one). Examples: mustard, radish, cabbage, cauliflower. Cheap trick: cruciferae = cross + pod.

- Reading the news with a pencil: seven questions I ask before I believe a headline
So if all three papers report the same thing, then it's definitely true?

- Why is heavy water used as a moderator and not normal water? And why isn't hydrogen already the fuel everyone uses?
this is what I was looking for, "per gram vs per litre" is a very good one. thanks all, notes updated 🙏

- ADH, renin, aldosterone, ANF: I keep mixing which raises or lowers blood volume. Any clean way?
Micturition + other organs, in the short form I use: - Bladder fills → **stretch receptors** send signals to CNS → CNS sends motor messages → bladder smooth muscle contracts + urethral sphincter relaxes → urine released. That's the micturition reflex (voluntary signal from CNS initiates it). - Normal adult: about 1-1.5 L urine/day, slightly acidic (pH ~6), about 25-30 g urea/day. - **Lungs**: CO₂ (~200 mL/min) and some water. **Liver**: bilirubin, biliverdin, cholesterol, degraded steroid hormones, vitamins, drugs. **Skin**: sweat (NaCl, urea, lactic acid); sebaceous glands: sterols, hydrocarbons, waxes.

- Third attempt, and I finally read NCERT like a legal document
Practical note from someone who can't buy many books: NCERT is free to read and it's the only book that matters for the Bio base, so a pencil and the book really is all you need. Your post makes a case for it better than I could.

- Why is chloroform kept in dark brown bottles filled to the brim, and what is phosgene doing in NCERT?
CCl4 and freons: - **Carbon tetrachloride**: used as a solvent, in making refrigerants and as a fire extinguisher (the vapours are heavy and cover the flames). It damages the liver on exposure and also contributes to ozone depletion. - **Freons**: chlorofluorocarbons like $CCl_2F_2$ (Freon-12), used as refrigerants and aerosol propellants. In the stratosphere sunlight breaks the C–Cl bonds, the chlorine radicals destroy ozone. That's why they are being phased out.

- My monthly budget as a dropper living away from home (real numbers, about ₹15k)
that deposit receipt tip is gold, adding it to my notes. and thanks for the Kota number, it helps people compare

- Why is normal rain slightly acidic (pH 5.6)? And classical smog vs photochemical smog, I keep swapping the details
CO: it binds with haemoglobin to form carboxyhaemoglobin, which is about 300 times more stable than oxyhaemoglobin (I think that's the NCERT number). The blood then can't carry enough oxygen to tissues, headache, dizziness, and at high concentration, death. That's the "how" your teacher wanted. Photochemical smog is also eye-irritating, causes breathing problems. Classical smog hurts the lungs more because of the sulphur dioxide.

60%? it's 7,500 out of 14,999 so exactly half. maybe you added rent + train pass. and yes the 99 energy was accidental

- Carbonate and sulphite both turn lime water milky in salt analysis, how do I tell them apart?
Thanks pooja, orange to green for dichromate, pink to colourless for permanganate. Pinning that on my wall.

1200 is breakfast + chai + fruit together bhai, not only chai 😂 tracking takes 5 mins on Sunday night. If it takes longer than that you are doing too much

- My monthly budget as a dropper living away from home (real numbers, about ₹15k)
Ask the owner before you join: what is the roti count, is there a refill, what is the extra charge for it. Some places say unlimited but they mean unlimited rice. For the 9 pm hunger I keep roasted chana and a little jaggery in a steel box, costs maybe ₹20 a day and it works. Do not just sleep hungry, you will pay for it in the morning.

- My monthly budget as a dropper living away from home (real numbers, about ₹15k)
two meals included is honestly the better deal on paper, Mumbai rent is the villain here. Try the envelope for two weeks. It hurt me at first because I realised how many "small" chais I was having

- GFR is 125 mL/min but urine is only about 1.5 L a day, so where does the rest go?
Quick calc: 125 mL per minute, 24 hours in a day, so 125 × 24 = 3000 mL = 3 L. Which is nowhere near 180 L, so I think the book either means 125 mL per *second* or it's a misprint? Doubt the 180 L tbh.

- Hormones in the Biomolecules chapter: how to sort steroid vs polypeptide vs amino-acid-derived ones without just cramming?
I always thought thyroxine was a steroid since it controls metabolism and burns fat, so lipid kind of thing? That's how I memorised it 😅

- Stabilising, directional and disruptive selection, which example goes with which curve?
makes sense. I'll go with "mean shifts = directional". Thanks all, saved the 5 sec graph trick

- Festival season vs exam season: my Navratri-to-Diwali survival chart (with tables, obviously!)
Practical comment from me (Mumbai, so Ganpati is basically the entire city for 10 days). My hack: don't buy anything new for the festival. Revise using the same old notes. Festival expenses get silly and my parents are already stretched. The revision cards are a great budget idea though, you can make them out of old notebook pages.

- Survival cooking for a PG room: maggi upgrades, kettle poha and a very good egg bhurji
the emergency kitchen is basically what I have in Mumbai. my budget tip: buy onions, tomatoes and chillies from the weekly market instead of the shop near the PG, saves a lot. and bread + egg bhurji is the king of cheap dinner, I'll not hear any criticism
